SCRIPTURE: Josh. 21-22; Ps. 47; 1 Cor. 10

1 Corinthians 10:11-12 These are all warning markers—danger!—in our history books, written down so that we don’t repeat their mistakes. Our positions in the story are parallel—they at the beginning, we at the end—and we are just as capable of messing it up as they were. Don’t be so naive and self-confident. You’re not exempt. You could fall flat on your face as easily as anyone else. Forget about self-confidence; it’s useless. Cultivate God-confidence.

OBSERVATIONS: There are very few NEW mistakes. Most of our mistakes are already old news in the Bible. Matter of fact, the main problem is ISH. Instead of being selfISH, we should become more selfLESS. God-confidence is to be admired over self-confidence.

APPLICATION: I have some gifts. Lots of people do. I should be glad that God has blessed me. But when I admire my gifts and forget that God designed them in me with a purpose, then I have sinned. “In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:6

Same thing here.

It would also behoove me to recognize that history repeats itself for good or for ill when we repeat the successes and mistakes of the past.

PRAYER: God, less of me, please. More of you. Amen.
