The Acts of This Disciple

SCRIPTURE: Is. 29-31; Jas. 1

James 1:22-25
Don’t fool yourself into thinking that you are a listener when you are anything but, letting the Word go in one ear and out the other. Act on what you hear! Those who hear and don’t act are like those who glance in the mirror, walk away, and two minutes later have no idea who they are, what they look like.

But whoever catches a glimpse of the revealed counsel of God—the free life!—even out of the corner of his eye, and sticks with it, is no distracted scatterbrain but a man or woman of action. That person will find delight and affirmation in the action.

OBSERVATIONS: Even when we make the choice to listen and take steps to hear God’s voice, there is always the challenge of putting the Word to work in our lives. Too often, I’ll dig into a lesson and simply allow it to wash over me.

APPLICATION: Today, I will review some of my journal entries and ask myself some hard questions. “Do you even remember this Word? Did you apply it? How’s that working out for you?”

PRAYER: God, may the words of your wisdom become the actions of my life. Through Christ alone is this possible. Amen.
