SCRIPTURE: Jer. 26,35-36; John 20
Jeremiah 26:24 But in Jeremiah’s case, Ahikam son of Shaphan stepped forward and took his side, preventing the mob from lynching him.
OBSERVATIONS: Sometimes, preaching can get you killed. Allies become necessary, even if they are momentary. I saw a bit of Gandhi this morning on TV (Oscar winner Ben Kingsley was magnificent, by the way. See it when you get a chance). His life was about stepping forward for the truth, even if doing so places you in harm’s way.
APPLICATION: Who are the men and women who are in need of someone to step forward and take their side? What mob’s lynching might I be called to prevent?
PRAYER: For whom may I intercede, Lord? And help me to count the cost with eyes wide open–and then be able to disregard any price short of the loss of your only Son. Strengthen me for leadership and for sacrifice. Through Christ I ask it, Amen.
