SCRIPTURE: Ezek. 40-41; Ps. 128; Rev. 21

Psalm 128:1-2
All you who fear God, how blessed you are! how happily you walk on his smooth straight road!
You worked hard and deserve all you’ve got coming.
Enjoy the blessing! Revel in the goodness!

OBSERVATIONS: I kept wanting to add, “…for as long as it lasts.” For so many people, so few roads are straight. So few roads are smooth and happily traveled in this life–especially for those who are apart from God.

There’s an old myth out there. “One in five miles of the Interstate System is straight so airplanes can land in emergencies.”  This myth is widespread on the Internet and in reference sources, but has no basis in law, regulation, design manual—or fact. Airplanes occasionally land on Interstates when no alternative is available in an emergency, not because the Interstates are designed for that purpose.

APPLICATION: When the straight road comes, enjoy it. When the smooth road presents itself, take advantage of it. confirm your direction, pick up speed, and enjoy the trip.

PRAYER: Help me to be smart enough not to make a rough road out of smooth. In and through Christ, amen.
