SCRIPTURE: Jeremiah 7-9; John 13

John 13:8-9
Peter persisted, “You’re not going to wash my feet—ever!”

Jesus said, “If I don’t wash you, you can’t be part of what I’m doing.”

“Master!” said Peter. “Not only my feet, then. Wash my hands! Wash my head!”

OBSERVATIONS: Peter was stuck on the idea of the washing. What is the water doing? How much of me is washed? Jesus was focused on the acts of service and the act of being served. Peter, having been served, was ready to serve. This is the core of the Gospel Cycle.

APPLICATION: Joey, you’ve been washed. Wash. You’ve been served. Serve. You’ve been loved. Love.

PRAYER: God, I’m not always where you want me. Help me to understand the difference between serving the church body, serving individuals, and serving You. With You, I can do all three. Prod me in the right direction, for the sake of the Name of Christ. Amen.
