SCRIPTURE: Ps. 149; 1 Cor. 15-16

Psalm 149
Hallelujah! Sing to God a brand-new song,
praise him in the company of all who love him.
Let all Israel celebrate their Sovereign Creator,
Zion’s children exult in their King.
Let them praise his name in dance;
strike up the band and make great music!
And why? Because God delights in his people,
festoons plain folk with salvation garlands!

1 Corinthians 15:10-11
But because God was so gracious, so very generous, here I am. And I’m not about to let his grace go to waste. Haven’t I worked hard trying to do more than any of the others? Even then, my work didn’t amount to all that much. It was God giving me the work to do, God giving me the energy to do it. So whether you heard it from me or from those others, it’s all the same: We spoke God’s truth and you entrusted your lives.

OBSERVATIONS: God delights in plain folk, covering them with salvation. God generously provides a season of rest and an opportunity to accomplish much. My former work was filled with energy and overwork, and didn’t amount to all that much. Now, it is time for God’s truth and lives entrusted.

APPLICATION: Joey, you continue to rush, even though there is no need to rush. I’ve diminished your geography so you can increase the Kingdom. Speak truth. Receive the trust and hope of the lives I’ve entrusted to you.

PRAYER: God, your tasks before me are clear. I pray specifically that you would undermine the things that cause me to dash around in vain efforts, avoiding the real tasks. In Christ I pray, Amen.
