SCRIPTURE: Job 41-42; 2 Cor. 1-2

Job 42:1-6
I Babbled On About Things Far Beyond Me

1-6 Job answered God: “I’m convinced: You can do anything and everything.
Nothing and no one can upset your plans.
You asked, ‘Who is this muddying the water,
ignorantly confusing the issue, second-guessing my purposes?’
I admit it. I was the one. I babbled on about things far beyond me,
made small talk about wonders way over my head.
You told me, ‘Listen, and let me do the talking.
Let me ask the questions. You give the answers.’
I admit I once lived by rumors of you;
now I have it all firsthand—from my own eyes and ears!
I’m sorry—forgive me. I’ll never do that again, I promise!
I’ll never again live on crusts of hearsay, crumbs of rumor.”

OBSERVATIONS: We can study the study of God sometimes, thinking that we are meditating in the presence, dwelling on the higher things; in actuality, we are babbling on about things that are far beyond us.

APPLICATION: Joey, listen and let me do the talking.

PRAYER: God, I don’t want to find the god I am searching for. That god is one of my own devising, a creature of study and conjecture. I want to find YOU. Stop up my mouth and I’ll soak you up firsthand. I’m sorry. Forgive me. No more rumors of You. Come, Holy Spirit. Please enlighten my thoughts, words, and deeds. Through Christ, Amen.
