Scripture: Eph. 1-4
Ephesians 4: 1-3
In light of all this, here’s what I want you to do. While I’m locked up here, a prisoner for the Master, I want you to get out there and walk—better yet, run!—on the road God called you to travel. I don’t want any of you sitting around on your hands. I don’t want anyone strolling off, down some path that goes nowhere. And mark that you do this with humility and discipline—not in fits and starts, but steadily, pouring yourselves out for each other in acts of love, alert at noticing differences and quick at mending fences.
Observations: Paul is talking about being good neighbors. Not just the kind who share things, or rake/shovel/mow for one another from time to time. He’s talking about pouring yourself out–sacrificed like a drink offering–in acts of love.
Application: Acts of love means more than just “things that make me feel good about my friend.” Acts of love are agape actions in which the other person’s needs are more important than our own. Time to mend a few fences, Joey. I’ve got several folks I need to speak to and take my lumps. Several others owe me some lumps, but I need to let those go.
See, this isn’t as easy as we want it to be…
Prayer: Lord, help me to forgive as I am forgiven. Help me to see the needs and meet the needs, through Christ, Amen.
