SCRIPTURE: Neh. 1-2; Ps. 133; Luke 22
Luke 22:58
A short time later, someone else noticed him and said, “You’re one of them.”
But Peter denied it: “Man, I am not.”
OBSERVATION: Peter was afraid to admit who he was because he feared those around him. Bringing a clear claim to the fact that he was a Christ follower could have gotten him killed–and ultimately did, but not at this point. My denials are quieter, and often have more to do with not speaking up than actually saying, “No, man, I am not.”
APPLICATION: My identities are many, but the most important one is “believer in Christ,” because that status informs and controls all of my functions and roles. I will be a Christian Father. I will be a Christian clergy-person. I will be a Christian driver. All of these things are simply of the world if I don’t make them of Christ.
PRAYER: God, be my rudder, my leader, my guide, and my North Star. Through Christ, who leads us through the Jordan, past the desert, to the places of ministry, Amen.
