David was overwhelmed with guilt because he had counted the people, replacing trust with statistics. And David prayed to God, “I have sinned badly in what I have just done. But now God forgive my guilt—I’ve been really stupid.”
OBSERVATIONS: David trusted numbers and counting more than the leadership of the Lord.
APPLICATION: Trust in God to know what to do next. Ignore the census when it disagrees with God’s call to ministry. Ignore the stats when they fly in the face of God’s will.
PRAYER: Lead me Lord, and I will not doubt you even when conventional wisdom teaches otherwise.
