SCRIPTURE: Josh. 1-2; Ps. 37; 1 Cor. 3

1 Corinthians 3:18-20 – Don’t fool yourself. Don’t think that you can be wise merely by being up-to-date with the times. Be God’s fool—that’s the path to true wisdom. What the world calls smart, God calls stupid. It’s written in Scripture,

He exposes the chicanery of the chic.
The Master sees through the smoke screens
     of the know-it-alls.

OBSERVATIONS: There is more to being a good leader than knowing the “latest thing.” Note that Paul doesn’t repudiate current thinking. He implies that there is more to it than that, but certainly includes it in the arsenal of a good leader.

APPLICATION: I have to create a clear line between what I know and what I don’t know. Further, I have to clearly point to the things that I am taking on faith as God’s will for me and the church–the people–for whom I am responsible.

PRAYER: Lord, help me to know the things I can know. And please take care of the things I cannot understand. Above all, gracious Lord, help me to know the difference. Amen.
