Last year, at Charge Conference, the people of South Pleasant Grove UMC undertook several goals. They were widely criticized as being “overly ambitious.†You can read a copy of the goals here.
Already, several of those goals are being met. We are in the process of completing the first goal with new families visiting and joining the church already this year. More church leaders are in the SOAP/Yes groups already. And Wednesday night Bible Study has expanded because of the leaders who are making the effort to attend.
SOAP/YES has expanded already to three active groups. Members are still being encouraged to invite friends, relatives, associates from work, and neighbors to join their group. The FRAN plan works–when we work it.
We’re beginning a stewardship drive with a five week course of study on finances, tithing, and church budget priorities.
The Tri-M class, in association with the UMW and the UMM (United Methodist Women and Men, respectively), are leading the way into mission and ministry beyond the local church. Once participation picks up, the goal will be marked off and replaced with an even more ambitious goal!
You may have already read the success story of the United Methodist Men. With the first objective completed, we’ll be moving quickly to acheiving the second and third goals of attending a regional Men’s event and setting up a local mission project.
The most recent development is from some of the young women at the church. There is talk of reforming the “James Harvey Ellis Circle.†Some years ago, this small group was a component of the United Methodist Women. After a difficult start, it fell by the wayside.
But now, the time may be right. Three of the leading young women at South Pleasant Grove are starting to consider the possibility of reforming this group with new directions and new ideas.
Keep watching the website for developments.
We’ll be posting our successes and our struggles. Perhaps you’ll be able to help out, or at least learn from our story of discipleship.
