SCRIPTURE: Est. 9-10; Luke 19
Luke 19:5-7
When Jesus got to the tree, he looked up and said, “Zacchaeus, hurry down. Today is my day to be a guest in your home.” Zacchaeus scrambled out of the tree, hardly believing his good luck, delighted to take Jesus home with him. Everyone who saw the incident was indignant and grumped, “What business does he have getting cozy with this crook?”
OBSERVATIONS: When I think that Jesus deems me worthy to grace my home, my hearth, my heart with His presence, I find myself agreeing with the crowd. “Everyone who saw the incident was indignant and grumped.” Everyone, including me.
APPLICATION: A servant’s heart and a humble attitude are the welcome that Jesus expects. But I think he also appreciates our delight.
PRAYER: Christ, be welcomed in my heart today. Come into my home again and again, and I will be honored by your visit, your stay. Teach me the lessons of humble Zacchaeus. May you find in me a welcome that comes near to his. In Your holy Name I pray, Amen.
