Scripture: Matt. 17-19

Matthew 17:6-8
When the disciples heard it, they fell flat on their faces, scared to death. But Jesus came over and touched them. “Don’t be afraid.” When they opened their eyes and looked around all they saw was Jesus, only Jesus.

Observations: Jesus comforts the disciples in the awesome presence of God.

Application: When God’s overwhelming presence fills my life, I find myself wanting to run and hide. Nothing sinful can stand in the face of the Lord, so I have this urge to get under my chair and wait for God to go check His e-mail or something. But then, Jesus reminds me not to be afraid. He’s made things right between me and God. He’s standing in there for me and bringing me into the presence of His Father and making the introductions.

Prayer: Sorry about the abject fear, God. I know you’re loving and warm, but you’re pretty darned scary, too. Thanks for letting me into your presence–most importantly, thank you for your Son Jesus who makes this whole conversation possible. Amen.
