SCRIPTURE: Prov. 13-15; Rom. 11
Proverbs 13:24
24 A refusal to correct is a refusal to love;
love your children by disciplining them.Romans 11:33-36
Have you ever come on anything quite like this extravagant generosity of God, this deep, deep wisdom? It’s way over our heads. We’ll never figure it out.Is there anyone around who can explain God?
Anyone smart enough to tell him what to do?
Anyone who has done him such a huge favor
that God has to ask his advice?Everything comes from him;
Everything happens through him;
Everything ends up in him.
Always glory! Always praise!
Yes. Yes. Yes.
OBSERVATIONS: This passage brought my attention to the fact that I could do a better job of teaching my children to walk in the disciplines of the faith. More importantly, I’m not sure my kids know how to relate to God as deeply as they might. “Is there anyone around who can explain God?” I spend a lot of time thinking that’s my job. But the real task is introducing them to my friend Jesus. Totally different. The question is rhetorical, and the answer is “No, there’s no one who can explain God.”
APPLICATION: Joey, teach them how you got it, not what you got. Don’t try to give them your relationship with God. Help them find their own.
PRAYER: God, I’d like my kids to get to know you better. Please help me find ways that aren’t threatening, that will bring them into your presence. Would that you might speak to them clearly, that their love for you might grow as mine has. Because of your Son, Amen.
