SCRIPTURE: 2 Kings 23; 2 Chronicles 35; John 7
John 7:12-13, 24, 46
There was a lot of contentious talk about him circulating through the crowds. Some were saying, “He’s a good man.” But others said, “Not so. He’s selling snake oil.” This kind of talk went on in guarded whispers because of the intimidating Jewish leaders.Jesus: “Don’t be nitpickers; use your head—and heart!—to discern what is right, to test what is authentically right.”
Some: “Have you heard the way he talks? We’ve never heard anyone speak like this man.”
OBSERVATIONS: People didn’t know what to do with Jesus. Opinions were divided. Even the Teaching of the Son of God was questioned by some. But, after all, his teaching eventually amazed those who would listen.
APPLICATION: Joey, say what you need to say. There will always be questions around you and within you. My Word comes through despite all that; speak it with confidence and authority, both in and out of the pulpit. The task of hearing is upon the people. Speak the truth as you receive it.
PRAYER: Embolden my lips, O God, for the task of preaching, teaching, and leading. And not for my sake, but for the sake of the Gospel and the Kingdom we seek. By the Name of Christ, and through His Grace, Amen.
