SCRIPTURE: 2 Kings 20; Is. 38-39; Ps. 75; 1 Pet. 2
2 Kings 20: 9-11
9 “This will be your sign from God,” said Isaiah, “that God is doing what he said he’d do: Do you want the shadow to advance ten degrees on the sundial or go back ten degrees? You choose.”10 Hezekiah said, “It would be easy to make the sun’s shadow advance ten degrees. Make it go back ten degrees.”
11 So Isaiah called out in prayer to God, and the shadow went back ten degrees on Ahaz’s sundial.
OBSERVATIONS: Always wanting proof. Always wanting a sign. That’s me. So this passage was a natural to jump out at me. God didn’t seem to mind, and Isaiah didn’t either, so the King got his confirmation. Sometimes, our faith needs a little confirmation for the word to take hold in the world.
APPLICATION: I’m going to look for the places where my requests and petitions have already been confirmed. I’m also going to get a little bolder and ask for God to send me a sign for an upcoming endeavor–I’m not sure I’m on steady ground here, so your prayers would be appreciated.
PRAYER: Lord, you have been bold in your actions in my life and the world around me. Help me to see your clear communication when I open my eyes and choose to see. In Christ I ask it! Amen.
