Scripture: Philem.; Heb. 1-4

Hebrews 4:12-13
God means what he says. What he says goes. His powerful Word is sharp as a surgeon’s scalpel, cutting through everything, whether doubt or defense, laying us open to listen and obey. Nothing and no one is impervious to God’s Word. We can’t get away from it—no matter what.

Observations: While this promise is ultimately true, its easy to spend a lifetime ignoring the Word in favor of traditions and personal opinions. God’s word speaks when it is spoken. It is silent when it is left to lay upon the table or forgotten in the car or safely left on the shelf.

Application: Read it. Read it carefully. Stop skimming it, Joey. Read it out loud when the passages are “easy” and read it out loud when the passages are “confusing.” The proper reading is going to be the tough one that asks more of you than you are willing to give.

Prayer: Simple, but not easy. Thank you God for strength to accomplish the simple tasks that threaten to overwhelm me. Amen.
