SCRIPTURE: Deut. 32-34; 1 Cor. 2
Deuteronomy 33:29
Lucky Israel! Who has it as good as you?
A people saved by God!
The Shield who defends you,
the Sword who brings triumph.
Your enemies will come crawling on their bellies
and you’ll march on their backs.1Corinthians 2:1-2
You’ll remember, friends, that when I first came to you to let you in on God’s master stroke, I didn’t try to impress you with polished speeches and the latest philosophy. I deliberately kept it plain and simple: first Jesus and who he is; then Jesus and what he did—Jesus crucified.
OBSERVATIONS: Okay, I wouldn’t use the term ‘Lucky’ to describe Israel, but on St. Patrick’s Day, this one stood out…
But more importantly, there’s something about keeping it simple when it comes to Christ. Something that has to be remembered and spoken aloud often: Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He lived as you and I live. He died a horrendous death for crimes he didn’t commit. Instead, the crimes for which he died were yours and mine. Because the price has been paid, we are no longer guilty of those sin-crimes.
APPLICATION: We are forgiven and free. And because we have been redeemed, we owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to God. This is why we dance.
PRAYER: God, your message is so simple, and my mouth is so big. Close my lips when they aren’t singing your simple praises. In Christ, for His sake, Amen.
