SCRIPTURE: Ezek. 12-14; Rev. 5

Ezekiel 12:10-11 “Say to them, ‘This is what the Lord God says: This message is about the king in Jerusalem and all the people of Israel who live there.’  Say, ‘I am a sign to you.’

OBSERVATIONS: Ezekiel would be in psychiatric hospital if he were around today. I’m pretty sure that some of the behavior described in the book that bears his name would easily qualify him for a straitjacket. But all of those crazy things that he did were for a purpose–to be a sign. An unforgettable analogy of things to come, of consequences that were unavoidable.

APPLICATION: What kind of sign am I to be? In the absence of God’s specific instruction, how radical should my anaologies be? Perhaps the best sign is the example of following Christ daily, minute by minute. But that’s going to be a lot harder than digging through a wall or playing with a frying pan. Is it possible that Ezekiel’s job was easier than that of the average Christian witness today?

PRAYER: Lord, help me with the semiotics of living well. May my actions point to you. May my words outline your plan and speak to your grace and mercy. Teach me transparency so that Jesus is seen clearly through me, for I pray in His name and serve for His sake. Amen.
