Scripture: Matt. 11-13
11:28-30
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
Observations: Jesus lifted the burden of forced, hollow, organized religion and replaced it with the unforced rhythms of grace. He kept the main thing the main thing.
Application: While I’m busy stuffing turkey (into my mouth), I need to remember that there is no need to force my relationship with God. I just need to experience that relationship by following Jesus example, not his word-for-word teaching. What were his guiding principles? Grace and intimacy with God.
Prayer: Forgive me when I try to hard and make a mess of things. Thank you for your son’s wisdom and the preserved legacy that allows me to re-learn this truth. Amen.
