SCRIPTURE: 1 Samuel 23; Psalm 31, 54; Matthew 7

Into your hand I commit my spirit;
you have redeemed me, O Lord, faithful God.
You hate those who pay regard to worthless idols,
but I trust in the Lord.
I will exult and rejoice in your steadfast love,
because you have seen my affliction;
you have taken heed of my adversities,
and have not delivered me into the hand of the enemy;
you have set my feet in a broad place.

Psalm 31:5-8

OBSERVATIONS: This David psalm, quoted by Jesus from the Cross, is not a surrender, but a commitment (literally) to God in light of the victory he’s provided.

APPLICATION: Joey, your life is not your own. You have been redeemed by God from your own sins. You’ve been rescued from your adversaries and the destructive powers that be. For a rescue you didn’t deserve, a gift you cannot repay, you have been made a part of a family that welcomes you. Hold the door for the one who follows.

PRAYER: God, from the place where I stand, the broad place where you have set my feet, I praise you and commit myself to your purposes in Christ. Amen.
