SCRIPTURE: 1 Samuel 19; 1 Chronicles 7; Psalm 59; Matthew 4

From there he went all over Galilee. He used synagogues for meeting places and taught people the truth of God. God’s kingdom was his theme—that beginning right now they were under God’s government, a good government!

Matthew 4:23

OBSERVATIONS: The Kingdom supplants the government. We no longer take our first cues from the kings of men, but from the King of Glory.

APPLICATION: Joey, there was a sincere danger in following Jesus when he set himself up against the government of the land. And yet, he proclaimed the arrival of “God’s government, a good government.” Remember the Kingdom-Calling upon your life.

PRAYER: God, let our hearts take courage in the knowledge that we are citizens of the Kingdom before we are citizens of this or any other nation. Let our discipleship outstrip our patriotism for the sake of God’s glory. We ask it in the name of our King, Jesus Christ. Amen.
